During Carnival 2005, Venezia INscena decided to create a company selecting actors from different countries (France, Spain; Ireland, Italy) among the hundreds of students of the International Commedia dell'Arte Workshop that Adriano Iurissevich and his collaborators held in Venice since 1996 (next edition will be the eleventh). It was time to open a new chapter of the story, to take the risk of producing a commedia and some of the best former students, now professional actors were put toghether. Two scenarios have been set up and performed in theatres and in the open air in the Carnivals of Venice and Milan and in a few festivals in Italy and abroad (Madrid, Lisbona, Almeria, Olite....)
The linguistic and cultural variety of the group (Commedia dell'Arte as "Armony of different languages") and the 25 year experience of the director and his collaborators guarantee quality, energy, ritm and....amusement.
The company performed in theatres and national and international festivals like:
Carnevale di Venezia 2005-2006-2007; Comune di Milano, Teatro Carcano: Carnevale Ambrosiano 2006; III Festival Internazionale di Commedia dell'Arte di Alcalà de Henares(Madrid, Spagna); Notturni d'arte 2005 Palazzo del Bo (Padova);IV Festival Internazionale di Commedia dell'Arte di Lisbona (Portogallo); XXIII Festival di Almeria (Spagna); Teatro in Campo 2005 a Venezia; Festival de Teatro Clasico de Olite (Spagna); Festival de Teatro Clasico de Olmedo (Spagna)

i have been interested in Commedia dell'Arte since 1981. My approach to the Commedia is both objective and entertaining. I hate the neo-Romantic interpretation, from still life to carnival for tourists, in favor of an exciting real and concrete approach. The Commedia dell'Arte was the foundation of Modern Theater in its organizational aspects and in its formal expression, as well as in its ethical and idealistic [ideological] values. It is treated for what it is: life produced on the stage, embodied, with the energy of "Total Theatre" which arouses fascination, admiration, and stimulation all over the world. (A.I.)

The old man in love (from the comedy of Menander through the figure of Pantalon of the Commedia up until today) is a prototype of both popular and classical dramaturgy [drama] of all periods and traditions all over the world. The discrepancy between his age and the force of his sexual desire, going way... [go to the page...]

It is a typical scenario of the Commedia dell'Arte, with lovers, intrigues, disguises, surprises, and recognitions. Through performance and narration, the actor portrays the complex and colourful world of Commedia dell'Arte in its harmonious and functional interweaving of high and low, popular and cultured, carnival and refined dramaturgy. It is a theatrical journal through the actual history of Theater and its connection... [go to the page...]
